Conference – Towards a Global Pact for the Environment
This event will take place Wednesday 6th February 2019 from 14:00 to 18:00 in the Room A1G3 of the European Parliament in Brussels.
Launched by a vote of the UN General Assembly on May 10, 2018, the discussions are still ongoing between States on the project of the Global Pact for the Environment. As a result of an initiative of an international network of leading experts, the Global Pact for the Environment would be the cornerstone of international environmental law. A major new step after the adoption of the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), it would contribute to the emergence of a global legal framework that protects the environment. Following the two international covenants of 1966 – one related to civil and political rights, the other related to economic, social and cultural rights – this new Pact would establish a third generation of fundamental rights: the rights related to the protection of the environment.
